Yeah, I'm gonna hafta go ahead and say skip this one. The only thing this movie had going for it was the supposed A-list actors; Kevin Costner, Demi Moore, William Hurt. But the rest of it is just kinda bad. Its a B-movie script if ever there was one. Occasional moments of entertainment are there to be had but most of the time its B-movie material baby. The cinematography is nothing new to behold, but it does get pretty funny when it goes all Matrix-like for about a minute. And of course the stereotypes. What would a movie be without them. Entertaining maybe? And whats with the black detective guy with the hat? I feel like I'm seeing this character all over the place. Look people, Morgan Freeman is the only black guy that can get away with that Steve Landry hat. Well, okay, occasionally Denzel. But the rest are a bunch of posers. Demi Moore's career looks like its on a solid and steady decline. I feel badly for Costner because he gets to do some pretty cool character acting, its like his Travis Bickle. But the downfall is he's surrounded by a crappy movie. Dane Cook? In closing, bad script, film study camerawork, and a little bit o' Matrix, which I have to admit had me laughing. I don't think the filmmakers intended it to be funny though. It is about a serial killer after all.

If you haven't seen the original Manchurian Candidate (1962), you should. Great story, great cinematography (in beautiful black & white) and Angela Lansbury plays a great villian. Thats right, Little Miss Murder She Wrote. No singing teapot here I assure you. The background aspects to the film (it was pulled from theatres after the assasination of President Kennedy, Frank Sinatra (who co-starred) bought the rights to the film and summarily shelfed it until 1987), and the timely social and political implications the film puts forth, provide even more reasons why this is a must-see film. (AND its better and more shocking than the remake from 2005 - not to knock Jonathan Demme or Denzel Washington or Meryl Streep or Liev Schrieber)
